Life in the West Artist Shannon StirnweisArtist Shannon Stirnweis won the 2009 Silver Award for painting at the Western Artists of America and in 2007 the Silver Award for drawing. Shannon Stirnweis is an artist who paints on several themes as his interests dictate and American Indians and western landscapes are among his favorite.

Shannon's art work includes paintings Published in Outdoor and Wildlife Publications Including: Outdoor Life - Audubon - Field and Stream (shown right)

Born and educated in the western United States, western themes often dominate his paintings. Paintings of Native Americans like the Cheyenne, Blackfoot and Comanche. These Native Aremican paintings spring to life in the body of Shannon's work. He also has paintings of the dramatic Western landscape and Western wildlife. All his paintings uniquely capture this time period and geography.

When seeking softer themes he paints historical period children, often with animals. Again seeking quieter and softer material he sometimes paints the beauty of local environment. His art is involved with the relationship of man to the natural world, whether it is in the soft turn in the cheek of an Indian girl or in the rugged snow covered face of a mountain.

The variety of themes in his work maybe due to his background as an illustrator..He worked for the New York market for almost 40 years as a magazine, book and advertising illustrator. As President of the Society of Illustrators and a founding Trustee of the Graphic Artist’s Guild in N.Y.C. he strongly promoted the use of art in the publishing industry
